With a strong background in Education and with over 12 years teaching experience, I came to Yoga, or Yoga came to me, over many years of "trying to make everything fit". With Yoga Teacher Trainings in Yoga for Surfers, California (150 hours), Santosha Yoga, Bali (200 hours) and then onto my spiritual home of Rishikesh, India I felt like I had come home with teachings from guru Yogrishi Vishvketu and Akhanda Yoga (500 hours). It is here where I was given my "spiritual name" and I am honoured to continue to share the light of traditional Hatha Yoga as passed down from generation to generation. Since igniting this light, I have walked away from the corporate life and other things that weren't "fitting" or serving me anymore. As a keen surfer, traveler and lover of all things coastal, I believe we have the most beautiful and amazing beaches in the world! Soul Coast Yoga is a reflection of this love for both the ocean and Yoga. This has brought so much joy and inspiration in my life I am excited to be able to share this with my community. Hari Om
I have always lived a very active life - roller skating, little athletics, netball, modelling, dancing, running, cycling, every gym class possible and yet I always find my way back to my yoga mat. To me this is a place I find: self-discovery, inner peace, awareness, strength, connection of my mind, body and soul. I wish to share this journey, continue to learn and grow as we unleash our true potential. "Smile, Breathe and go slowly" - Thich Nhat Hanh
My yoga journey began in the 1990's while living in Indonesia and became consistent over four years ago while working in a high level, stressful job. Initially I was drawn to the physical practice but soon realised the emotional benefits far outweighed this and before long yoga changed my life. At the end of 2014 I left the corporate world to immerse myself fully in yoga. I moved to Brisbane at the start of 2015 and completed my 350hr Yoga Teacher Training with the Yoga Integrative Medicine Institute and am now a fully registered Level I yoga teacher with Yoga Australia. Whilst studying my teacher training I discovered a new interest, Ayurvedic Medicine, and plan to continue my studies in this area, which goes hand in hand with the practice of yoga. Now as a teacher, my passion on the mat derives from the integration of mind, body, spirit and exploring this connection deeper. Whilst living in Brisbane I became part of an inspiring yoga community and learnt many techniques and tools to guide you through a meditation in motion, emphasising breath, good alignment, and with a focus on deep awareness and self-understanding. My love and affinity for the ocean has drawn me back home to Rockingham and I am so excited and humbled to be part of the Soul Coast team and to share the love of yoga with our community
My passion has always been working with small children. With over 20 years' experience in the Child Care Industry, I have owned and operated three childcare centres! I have an Advanced Diploma in Children Services (0-5 years) giving me a deep and comprehensive understanding of children's development. After enhancing my own knowledge and experience with a Children's' Yoga Teacher Certification, I can't wait to combine my passion of working with children to teach Yoga inspired classes, encouraging and facilitating children's learning and development. I am deeply committed to ensuring all children achieve their full potential and enjoy a healthy and safe, happy life.
After many years of skirting the issue of my physical and emotional wellbeing, I found myself physically stiff, unfit, often in pain and emotionally drained. At 55 years I decided something had to change (it was me who had to change!) and I decided to begin to take care of my physical and emotional health. I finally took the leap-and with very little previous experience of yoga began training in the Satyananda Yoga tradition (from the Sivananda lineage.) I completed a two year fulltime Diploma in Satyananda Yoga Teacher Training, and have been teaching since August 2015. My training took place on a daily basis through the Satyananda ashrams in Rocklyn Victoria and in Mangrove Mountain, NSW. I teach asana, pranayama, meditation and yoga Nidra. I am a walking testament to the benefits of a rounded and integrated yoga practice as taught in the Satyananda tradition; from being unfit miserable and tired, suffering from carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, bursitis, lower back pain and neck issues-within a couple of years of practice I am now physically fit, pain free and emotionally happy! I offer the Soul Coast community, teachers and students, the benefit of the teachings of a gentle and integrated style of yoga in the Satyananda tradition. The yoga skills learned include pranayama, mantra, meditation, yoga nidra and asanas in each class. Come along and experience for yourself a style that is restorative to everybody; from the unfit, infirm, elderly, beginners through to experienced yogis. The teachings speak for themselves, experience it to believe it. Registered with Yoga Australia and SYTA (RYT 1500hrs.)
Certificate IV in Pilates Matwork Instruction (91492NSW) Undertaking Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction (91491NSW) Alison first found Pilates to help her correct the imbalance in her shoulder and neck, which was causing acute pain and limiting her movement. She was amazed with the progress she saw in her body and wanted to learn more about the intricate Pilates technique. 8 years on, encouraged by her progress, Alison wanted to share the Pilates method with others. She undertook her teaching certification at the Pilates Fitness Institute and is currently completing her diploma with them. She loves the opportunity to share her knowledge through teaching and finds this truly rewarding. Alison's classes aims to inspire and challenge clients to explore their potential and develop mind-body awareness. One of her favourite reasons for teaching is the ability to educate her clients to use their bodies in a way that mpowers them and makes them feel lengthen, connected and stronger. Although challenging for her body, Alison's favourite exercise is the Rollup because she is continuously fascinated by how the body can use all its muscles collectively collaborate to come to a seated position with poise.
Yoga is something I have come back to on and off since university, starting out with an intense but sporadic ashtanga practice, setting things aside for a few years before coming back to a gentler vinyasa and hatha practice, letting it slide to focus on career, my young family and running, and eventually finding a permanent space in my life for yoga after suffering a stress fracture to my femur while training to run a marathon. Through gentle and consistent vinyasa and yin practice, I regained my ability to walk normally, and found that health and fitness doesn't have to come from running a long way or causing pain. An engineer and project manager 'by day', I took an opportunity to train as a children's yoga instructor with Rainbow Yoga in early 2015 to explore another side of me. The enthusiasm, energy and sheer joy of working with children to express their emotions mindfully and care for and respect their bodies seems way too much like fun to be considered work! I truly embrace the opportunities I have to work with young people of all ages and those with additional needs, and love seeing their faces light up as they explore what their bodies and minds can do through breath work, movement and mindfulness. I have recently expanded my skills by training with 'Birthlight' as a Level One Baby Yoga instructor, and am working towards my diploma accreditation. This beautiful practice works with Mum's/Carers and babies as young as six weeks old to form deep bonds through gentle movement, breathing and relaxation for both, while helping to gently heal the post natal body and encouraging development and confidence for the child. A mother of two little yogis, I enjoy bringing the benefits of yoga to all ages, and believe that practice should be fun, creative but challenging, not about achieving the 'perfect' pose or spending the most hours in the studio. Yoga is for everyone, and for everywhere!
