With a strong background in Education and over 12 years teaching experience, Karuna Jyothi came to Yoga over many years of “trying to make everything fit”. After Yoga Teacher Trainings in Yoga for Surfers, California (150 hours), Santosha Yoga, Bali (200 hours), she arrived at her spiritual home with teachings from guru Yogrishi Vishvketu and Akhanda Yoga (500 hours) at Anand Prakash Yoga Ashram in Rishikesh, India.
It is here she was given her spiritual name and is honoured to continue to share the light of traditional Hatha Yoga as passed down from generation to generation. Since igniting this light, she walked away from the corporate life and other things that weren’t “fitting” or serving anymore. As a keen surfer, traveller and lover of all things soulful, Karuna’s joyful approach to Yoga and teaching really shine a light on the divine spark that exists in all of us and brings this to the surface so that you can live a life deeply connected to your essence and share this with the world!
With over 1000 hours in study in Hatha Yoga, an affiliate Akhanda Yoga Teacher Training, she specialises in Anatomy and Techniques.
Trainings also include, Yin Yoga, Anatomy Trains, Roll and Release and Active Birthing (Pre and Post Natal Yoga Specialist)

My yoga journey began in the 1990’s while living in Indonesia and became consistent over four years ago while working in a high level, stressful job. Initially I was drawn to the physical practice but soon realised the emotional benefits far outweighed this and before long yoga changed my life. At the end of 2014 I left the corporate world to immerse myself fully in yoga. I moved to Brisbane at the start of 2015 and completed my 350hr Yoga Teacher Training with the Yoga Integrative Medicine Institute and am now a fully registered Level I yoga teacher with Yoga Australia. Whilst studying my teacher training I discovered a new interest, Ayurvedic Medicine, and plan to continue my studies in this area, which goes hand in hand with the practice of yoga. Now as a teacher, my passion on the mat derives from the integration of mind, body, spirit and exploring this connection deeper.
Whilst living in Brisbane I became part of an inspiring yoga community and learnt many techniques and tools to guide you through a meditation in motion, emphasising breath, good alignment, and with a focus on deep awareness and self-understanding. My love and affinity for the ocean has drawn me back home to Rockingham and I am so excited and humbled to be part of the Soul Coast team and to share the love of yoga with our community
After many years of skirting the issue of my physical and emotional wellbeing, I found myself physically stiff, unfit, often in pain and emotionally drained. At 55 years I decided something had to change (it was me who had to change!) and I decided to begin to take care of my physical and emotional health. I finally took the leap-and with very little previous experience of yoga began training in the Satyananda Yoga tradition (from the Sivananda lineage.) I completed a two year fulltime Diploma in Satyananda Yoga Teacher Training, and have been teaching since August 2015. My training took place on a daily basis through the Satyananda ashrams in Rocklyn Victoria and in Mangrove Mountain, NSW. I teach asana, pranayama, meditation and yoga Nidra. I am a walking testament to the benefits of a rounded and integrated yoga practice as taught in the Satyananda tradition; from being unfit miserable and tired, suffering from carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, bursitis, lower back pain and neck issues-within a couple of years of practice I am now physically fit, pain free and emotionally happy! I offer the Soul Coast community, teachers and students, the benefit of the teachings of a gentle and integrated style of yoga in the Satyananda tradition. The yoga skills learned include pranayama, mantra, meditation, yoga nidra and asanas in each class. Come along and experience for yourself a style that is restorative to everybody; from the unfit, infirm, elderly, beginners through to experienced yogis. The teachings speak for themselves, experience it to believe it. Registered with Yoga Australia and SYTA (RYT 1500hrs.)
Shaan was inspired by the fable of Hanuman, who took a giant leap of faith across the ocean. This inspired her to fulfil her own dream crossing the oceans to Bali where she completed her 200 HR Vinyasa + Hatha Yoga Teacher Training through Santosha. There she also completed a further 30 hours of training in Kids-Teen plus Pre-Post Natal giving her all the tools she needed to get started on her dream of becoming a Yoga Teacher.
When the sun is shining you’ll find her out in the shores of our beautiful bay, paddling boarding with her two sons and husband. Perhaps practicing her Hanumanasana, also known as front splits, splashing into the water over and over again as she is nowhere near there just yet!
Most importantly she loves how yoga can transform your mind to a place of home within yourself, a place of calm that you can always find your way back to on or off the mat.
