Beginning a yoga practice as an older adult can be daunting, especially if you’re out of shape or working with health conditions. You may not want to jump into a 90-minute hot yoga class with a group of younger practitioners, so a gentle practice for older adults is an excellent way to stay active and lower stress levels. Yoga helps mitigate the effects of tight joints and muscles, loss of flexibility, low back pain, poor blood circulation, sleep problems and other common conditions in the older population.
In these classes the poses might be less strenuous than in other classes, but they still do the righty when it comes to improving balance, stability, flexibility and other physical health markers, as well as improving awareness, developing mindfulness and bringing about a sense of calm.
